Autumn Adventuring Starts in Fort Bragg
Redwoods on one side, the rugged Pacific on the other. Fort Bragg is home base for Fall on the North Coast, and every kind of adventure is just minutes away. Here's where to start.

1. Hit the Trails on Two Wheels
Dry trails, cool and crisp air: fall is prime mountain biking season. Roll flat paved paths with the family or chase single-track climbs and downhill thrills. Whatever your speed, there's a trail with your name on it.

2. Go Mushroom Foraging
It’s fungi season in Mendocino County. Hit the trails, belly up to a mushroom-laced menu, or join a tour in search of candy cap, chanterelle, porcini and hedgehog treasures. (Be sure to never eat a mushroom unless an expert has identified it.)

3. Get a Jump on Holiday Shopping
Too soon? No way. Fort Bragg’s independent shops have something for everyone on your list, young and old. Shop early, shop local and be delighted by the one-of-a-kind finds.

4. Take the Skunk Train
See the redwoods like never before. Rumble through the forest, then stop at Glen Blair Bar for a picnic in the clearing.

5. Walk the Coastal Trail
Crisp and clear autumn days make the Coastal Trail an absolute wonder. Pack a jacket, hat and sunglasses and you are set to walk for as long or short as you like.

6. Eat Your Way Through Noyo Harbor
Fresh catches, working boats, and sea lions holding court. Grab a seat by the water and order whatever came in today. Chowder weather has arrived.

7. Stroll the Botanical Gardens
Fall is big bloom time at the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens! Dahlias, heritage roses, heathers, begonias, fuchsias, hydrangeas, and many other perennials are at their peak bloom.

8. Join the Magic Market
This annual day of mischievous fun falls on Halloween this year! Don’t miss out on the festivities and frolic. October 31 from 11am to 4pm, in downtown Fort Bragg.

9. Daytrip to Anderson Valley
Pinot season, rolling vineyards, and tasting rooms with no pressure and no crowds. It’s about an hour inland, and the autumn colors are worth the drive. Pick a designated driver and make a day of it.
