I was able to visit pointcabrillo again a few months ago. There is something so magical about this place. On this day, it was overcast and dreamy, which made for some lovely photos. The last photo was taken last week from the Mendocino Headlands. I grew up coming to Fort Bragg every summer camping at MacKerricher State Park. Now I get to bring my family here to share with 💙💚🌊🦀🐙 some of our favorite things have been visiting the glass shop in the mall (I can’t remember who used to own it but the new person there is just as sweet), looking for sand dollars, eating at fisherman’s warf, riding the Skunk train, glass beach and so much more. Several months ago I had decided I`d go for walks in the afternoon but then it was so cold I abandoned that idea except a couple times a week. Now that it`s warming up (sorta, there`s a frost warning tonight lol fml) I`ve been going almost daily again. Because gas prices are outrageous I go to nearby spots, but how lucky am I that the nearby spots look like this? #fortbraggphotos #fortbraggcoastal

Glass Beach is a beach near Fort Bragg, named from a time when it was abundant with sea glass created from years of dumping garbage into an area of coastline near the northern part of the town.
History
In 1906, Fort Bragg residents established an official water dump site behind the Union Lumber Company onto what is now known as "Site 1". Most water-fronted communities had water dump sites discarding glass, appliances, and even vehicles. Locals referred to it as "The Dumps." Fires were often lit using Molotov cocktails to reduce the size of the trash pile.
When the original dump site filled up in 1943, the site was moved to what is now known as "Site 2", the active dump site from 1943 until 1949. When this beach became full in 1949, the dump was moved north to what is now known as "Glass Beach", which remained an active dump site until 1967.
The California State Water Resources Control Board and city leaders closed this area in 1967. Various cleanup programs were undertaken through the years to correct the damage. Over the next several decades, what was biodegradable in the dump sites simply degraded and all the metal and other items were eventually removed and sold as scrap or used in art. The pounding waves broke down the glass and pottery and tumbled those pieces into the small, smooth, colored pieces that often become jewelry-quality, which cover Glass Beach and the other two glass beaches (former dump sites) in Fort Bragg. ——————————————————————— Follow nk_aroundtheworld for more! ——————————————————————— Nikkor 24-70mm F2.8
Seemingly endless colorful cliffsides on the Mendocino Coast. If you`re lucky enough to visit, it`ll be one of the most beautiful places you`ll step foot on.
Our second night camping we enjoyed the most beautiful sunset accompanied by this vibrant rainbow (photos do it no justice) that lasted for the longest time and well past the sun setting 🌈 The skies must have known it was what this momtog needed 📸🤗
