Jackson Demonstration State Forest
Rustic seasonal camping along Highway 20 between Willits and Fort Bragg in the redwoods is offered mid/late May through September, weather dependent. There are two main overnight camping areas with multiple campsites, including equestrian camps. Camping is on a first come, first served within designated campsites only (i.e., no reservations, dispersed camping not allowed). Camping fees ($20/night, 8 ppl max) are collected at self-registration stations located in the campground, cash or check only. Campsites have picnic tables, fire rings, and pit toilets. Campers may collect dead wood lying on the ground for use within their campfire rings. There is no water at the campsites or day use areas. Pets are allowed but must be on a leash.

Jug Handle Creek Farm and Nature Center is a nonprofit organization. Their 39 acres include a native plant nursery, vegetable and herb gardens, forests and meadows, nature trails and serves as a gateway to both the Jug Handle State Reserve and the world’s largest intact Pygmy Forest Ecological Staircase.
MacKerricher State Park

Family-friendly beaches and trails
MacKerricher State Park offers a variety of habitats; beach, bluff, headland, dune, forest and wetland. Tide pools are along the shore. Seals may be seen on the rocks off the park’s coastline. More than 90 species of birds visit or live near Cleone Lake, a former tidal lagoon. During winter and spring, the nearby headland provides a good lookout for whale watching. The park is popular with hikers, joggers, equestrians and bicyclists. The park has a wheelchair accessible nature trail.
